Dame Kiri & Friends - The Second Gala Concert
The recent Gala Concert organized by the Foundation at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington was another very successful event.
The Gala featured not only Dame Kiri with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra under the baton of James Judd but also Dame Kiri's great friend Frederica von Stade making her first visit to New Zealand.
They were joined by two outstanding young singers, Anna Leese and Seung-Wook Seong.
The concert was a sell out and raised over NZ$200,000 for the Foundation's Trust fund to support outstanding young New Zealand singers and musicians. It was a memorable musical experience.
Gala Concert Programmes - Exclusive Offer
A limited number of the Gala Concert programmes are available for sale. Each programme is a deluxe, 28-page, full-colour souvenir publication. The Foundation offers a range of various opportunities to support its work. A 12-page brochure is available on request with details of specific support packages with various benefits available. Spreading the Word Through the Length of New Zealand
Recently Dame Kiri visited Invercargill in the far south of New Zealand to perform in recital with Rosemary Barnes at the refurbished Invercargill Town Hall. During her visit she attended a press conference where she spoke about the Foundation and the needs of young, aspiring, talented New Zealand singers and musicians. The Southland Times carried a story with her comments and then published a full editorial highlighting the needs that Dame Kiri had spoken about.

Foundation Story Read by Audiences Near and Far
A special feature about the Foundation has appeared in recent concert programmes when Dame Kiri has performed in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The feature provides a summary of the Foundation's objectives, the first two years of it's existence and backgrounds for the first three award recipients.
You can access a copy of the feature story for yourselves.
Reports from Foundation Award Recipients
One of the conditions of accepting awards made by the Foundation is that each recipient must prepare a report detailing how the grant has assisted in the development of their career. The reports from the first three recipients were recently tabled at a meeting of the trustees. They are exceptional reports - all different but very interesting. As a Friend of the Foundation we thought you might be interested to read them.

Divas Break Busy Schedules to Assist Young Singers
Just prior to commencing rehearsals for the Gala Concert Dame Kiri and Frederica von Stade took time out from their busy schedules to pay a visit to Opera Factory in Auckland to lead a workshop for young singers.
The two-hour visit was the brainchild of Sally Sloman, long time friend of Dame Kiri and founding Director of Opera Factory. Access the full report on the Opera Factory Workshop.
Leave a Legacy - Remember the Foundation with a bequest
It's often said that we are put on this earth "to live, to love, to learn and to leave a legacy". What better way to leave a legacy for music than by making a bequest in your will to the Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation. The Foundation was recently delighted to receive its first bequest – a legacy left for the Foundation from the estate of the late Rhema Jessie Scott who obviously had a love of music and wanted to leave her legacy in the form of a contribution towards the ongoing work of the Foundation.
Leaving a bequest is a simple procedure that allows you to include the Foundation as a beneficiary of your will. Bequests are usually directed to the Foundation for use at the trustee's discretion but they can also be directed towards a specific need such as a music scholarship for a talented singer, musician or conductor identified by the trustees as meeting all the required criteria.
If you would like to discuss this matter further or would like a copy of sample language for your lawyer please contact the Foundation office.
Foundation Fund is on Schedule
One of the original objectives of the Foundation was to raise a Trust Fund of $3million by the end of 2007. Paul Harrop, a trustee and financial advisor to the Foundation, provides the following update on progress towards this goal.
'As the financial year comes to an end it is pleasing to see the good progress made by the Foundation in building the funds over the past two years. The current figure, in terms of invested funds and commitments from supporters stands at NZ$2,170,000.
This figure has been attained by virtue of two highly acclaimed Gala concerts featuring Dame Kiri and friends, the generosity of our major sponsors and a significant number of donations from individual supporters both in New Zealand and abroad.
This achieved figure shows that we are well on the way towards the NZ$3,000,000 goal that the trustees set. The income from this goal is considered as being an amount sufficient to address the objectives of the Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation.'
