Special fundraising concert attracts star studded performers

Posted on 20 December 2006

Plans for a special fundraising Concert in Christchurch, New Zealand are well underway. Dame Kiri has agreed to perform and she’s enticed a very special friend to come as well.

Legendary mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade will join Dame Kiri, New Zealand tenor Simon O’Neill and 19-year-old baritone Kawiti Waetford and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra conducted by Brian Castles-Onion in a one-off concert  to be presented in association with the Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation and Deutsche Bank. The concert being staged at the Isaac Theatre Royal on February 12, 2011 is in support of Southern Opera and Christchurch Symphony Orchestra who both lost significant funds as a consequence of the recent Christchurch earthquake.

Dame Kiri says Frederica, who is affectionately known as “Flicka” to family, friends and fans, “is one of the classical world’s most-beloved Divas”. “Flicka is a great musician, a marvelously generous and supportive colleague, and a simply wonderful singer who has enriched the world of classical music for more than three decades performing in all of the world’s leading opera houses.”

Both Dame Kiri, Frederica von Stade, Simon O’Neill and Kawiti Waetford have generously donated their services for the concert.
